New Records & DJing Aalto Lounge
I hit up the record store yesterday to pick up a few new records to spin Aalto last night. After Local Natives, I went to the Aalto Lounge and spun a 2 hour hip hop set. It was a lot of fun playing music I love and people actually really digging it.  Records I picked up -  Eric B & Rakim - Follow the Leader Public Enemy - It takes a million to hold us back Outkast - Aquemini Tribe...

Local Natives @ Wonder Ballroom
Last night I saw Local Natives at the Wonder Ballroom. They were really good live but the crowd was super lame. I really wish I would’ve saw them when they played at Mississippi Studios few months back. If you enjoy their record you should check them out live, cause they put on a good live show.

The Selby is In Your Place by Todd Selby
I picked up The Shelby is In Your Place two days ago and its amazing. Todd Selby does a great job of showing you inside these super interesting peoples apartments/lives. I love the little illustrations and the mini interviews at the end each persons spread. I highly recommend picking up Mr. Selby’s book for only $23 buck on amazon.

Rave: Next to the WaveCave
The neighbors next to The WaveCave, our warehouse space had a rave. It was a rave and super lame. They had two legit stages and about 500 non legit people running around. Super funny and great people watching. Finished off the night with a late night skate sesh.

Blockhead @ Refuge
I went and saw Blockhead DJ a set at Refuge with Josh, Jeremy, and the Upper Playground PDX crew. Refuge is hands down the weirdest venue I’ve ever been to. Blockhead killed it, sampling Bell Biv Devoe “Poison”, “Knight Rider” theme, Luda “Move”, along with other samples from the Aesop Rock beats he’s made.

MFNW Night 4
Smashing Pumpkins at the Wonder Ballroom! If you’re not familiar with the venue it only hold 900 people. So seeing Billy Corgan there was a pretty unreal experience. He is one of the best guitar players i’ve ever seen live along with Tom Morello of Rage, Brian May of Queen and Peter Townsend of The Who (wow i’ve seen some epic guitar players live). They played a few classic...

MFNW Night 3
Male Bonding opened up the Nike Stage at the Wonder Ballroom on friday night. This was my first time seeing them and I really enjoyed the set they put on. If you like post punk / garage rock, these guys are great.  Surfer Blood was on second at the Nike Stage and they were better then the first time I saw them at Doug Fir. I enjoyed the set and they played some new songs which were pretty...

MFNW Night 2
Ra Ra Riot played the Nike stage friday night at Wonder Ballroom. I wasn’t into the pop rock band at all and left after 3 songs.  Deelay Ceelay is a local Portland duo that opened for Big Freedia and Major Lazer. They played drums over programed beats and top 40 songs. It was pretty boring after 10 minutes.  Big Freedia is the Queen Diva of Bounce Music from New Orleans!!! She was...

MFNW Night 1
Musicfest NW kicked off with Panda Bear at the Crystal Ballroom. Panda Bear is Noah Lennox of Animal Collective. It was really interesting watching one guy play a show with so much going on. The show was good, not great.

Top 3 Beers: 1. Belgium Tripel 2. PBR (PDX thing) 3. Widmer Hefeweizen I met beer man at 2:30 in the morning outside of RomTom’s on our way to the Taco Cart. Super nice guy, that was at a super hero party. His special power “is to quench your thirst and get you F’d up!”

A Seablanket Weekend
This past weekend I got the honor of hanging with the famous DIY Blogger Seablanket. Chelsea is one of my great friends and means the world to me (She’s my Lil G). We went to Edward Sharpe on thursday night, she came in and worked at Kamp, I cooked her dinner, and we hung at Jenny & Johnny. Chels is one of the most talented and driven people I know. She never ceases to amaze me with...

Jenny & Johnny @ Doug Fir
This show was a HUGE disappointment! Jenny Lewis was really good and was awesome to watch. Johnny Rice SUCKS! I thought he was terrible when I saw him open for Matt Costa and he really killed the show for me. I thought the record was a half ass attempt for her to play music with her new boyfriend and the live show proved it. Jenny please get back with Blake Sennett and make more amazing music...

Pavement at Edgefield
Word can’t describe this show to you. I went with the perfect group to this show (Patrick, Eric, Dan, Sheena, Wren, Jeff, Sean, and Corrina). Everyone had been waiting to see Pavement for a real real longtime. One of the best rock shows I’ve been to in a long time and I still can’t believe I saw the original line up play live!

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros @ Wonder
I was really surprised how popular Mr. Sharpe and his Magnetic friends were in PDX. The crowd was super in to the energetic band and they put on a really good show until the last two songs. If you’re fan of Arcade Fire and/or Dr. Dog you should really check them out live.
